Travel: October 2007 Archives
A couple years ago, I embarked on a short business trip to Japan. While I was there, a friend pointed me in the direction of a great pizzeria in Misawa, a small town on the northern tip of Honshu, very close to Hokkaido. I picked up a takeout pie and carried it back to my hotel.
Upon settling down in the hotel for dinner, I glanced at the box and noticed this truly beautiful bit of Janglish (or Engrish, if you prefer)...
LOOK OUT! We serve you DELICIOUS PIZZA. Have a a GREAT TIME. Let's enjoy your OWN PARTY all TOGETHER!!
Look out indeed! The pizza was very good, and the box was well worth capturing on photo.

As autumn approaches, the leaves begin to turn and the temperatures cool down nicely. This year, autumn took its time getting to us. Just earlier in the week it reached 92 degrees! I have never seen 90 degrees in October.
This weekend was much better. The temperature was in the mid-60s and the air felt nice & crisp. We decided to hop in the car and take a little road trip to see if the leaves had started changing in the mountains. I say "little" road trip because it only takes slightly over one hour to get to the mountains from here. However, it feels far, far away from the madness of the Beltway.
We started out in Harpers Ferry, WV. It's a small town situated right where the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers meet. Not much in the little town, but it is rather historic, and there are some neat shops downtown. Unfortunately, there are very few parking spots in town, and they fill up quickly. We drove around, took some pictures, and made our way down to Shenandoah National Park, back in Virginia. Skyline Drive cuts down through the park for about 75 miles or so. There were a few splashes of color, but for the most part, it was green & brown. We have had a pretty nasty drought this summer, so there was more brown than anything else. The lack of spectacular color was not a show stopper, though. We had a great time and enjoyed some wonderful views from the mountains. We also took a few pictures, which can be found here.
